About the Lancashire Wide Network for Minority Ethnic Women

The Lancashire Wide Network for Minority Ethnic Women (LWNMEW) has, over the years, provided training opportunities and helped hundreds of women to build their confidence to undertake accredited training through community and mainstream providers. It has developed and delivered a wide range of support services to women in an effort to support and enhance the potential of their local communities.

The Network was initially set up through work carried out by Lancashire County Council’s Equal Opportunities Section, who organised two Fair Play Conferences in 1996 and 1997, which were part of a Government initiative. A total of 220 women participated in issue-based workshops such as Health & Social Care, Social Services, Education, Training and Enterprise. The network agreed aims and objectives around training and development for minority ethnic women. An application was duly made to the European Social Fund (ESF) which was match funded by ELTEC, LAWTEC, Lancashire Co-operative Development Agency, Lancashire County Council, Lancashire Enterprise Plc and Preston Borough Council.

Today, LWNMEW has a vibrant membership and a busy calendar of events, services and initiatives. To find out more about our work, please contact us.

If you wish to join our membership, please complete the membership form and return to the office. You can download the form here as a PDF. (File size 55kb.)
